Tech Talk Presentation:  Building Your Personal Learning Network
Presenter: Christin Manning Faced with an onslaught and rapid creation of new information, Employees of the 21st Century have become increasingly committed to continuous learning.  The art of leveraging Web 2.0 technologies to develop Personal Learning Networks (PLN) offers a means to navigate the maze.  In this session, participants will learn tips to analyze their own learning network and utilize freely available tools to build a dashboard that can connect to their PLN.

Christin Manning is a PhD candidate in Lesley University’s PhD in Adult Learning program.  Her dissertation research study focuses on how professionals construct their personal learning networks for non-formal workplace learning. She has 25 years of experience in training and development and has spent that past 10 years working as an Instructional Design Consultant helping corporations leverage technology for workplace learning. She has a MEd in Instructional Design from the University of Massachusetts where she is an Adjunct Lecturer. 

Key Note Presentation: Context and Problem-Based Learning At a time when corporate learning professionals need to create learning opportunities beyond the high cost of formal leaning and for distributed workforces, informal learning is becoming more and more essential in the workplace. There is a considerable challenge in finding and providing learners with access to relevant, trustworthy best practices and benchmarks and keeping this content fresh and updated.
 
In this session you will learn:

  • How to sustain formal learning throughout the year by providing context-based content where you need it, when you need it, how you need it
  • Why adult’s learn best when they solve their problems as part of a workflow
  • How to utilize highly cost -effective learning tools that are widely-distributed for all levels of development (with Audio and mobile availability)
  • How to meet the needs of your self-directed learners and high potentials with a fully searchable professional development library

Donald P. Doak, Senior Vice President, Corporate, Federal & Partnership Sales, has been with EBSCO Publishing for over 20 years and has extensive experience in all aspects of EBSCO operations.  Don has authored a number of articles in a variety of industry publications and is a sought after speaker at a variety industry conferences.  Don has built strong relationships as a result of his active involvement within these major industry organizations such as Special Library Association, American Society of Training & Development, Society of Human Resource Management, and holds a seat at the Chief Learning Officer summit.  Don earned his educational degree in Management & Marketing from St. Louis University.
