Engagement in a 21st Century Classroom - Learning with SMARTboards at FM Global

Location: The Four Point Sheraton Norwood
1125 Boston providence Turnpike (Route 1)
Norwood MA

Keynote Presenter: Bernd Boettger | Chief Learning Specialist - Engineering | Enterprise Learning
FM Global

As we all know, more learning content is moving online, mobile, and virtual. In addition to those trends we have challenged ourselves to create 21st century classrooms that provide engaging and connected learning environments as well as leverage state-of-the-art technology. One key component of this classroom is the interactive whiteboard – in our case SMARTboard – something that many of our new employees have already experienced at universities. During this session we will share our story, we will demonstrate some ordinary and extraordinary SMARTboarding techniques and invite you to participate in this session hands-on.
Take a tour of the SimZone:
After the Keynote presentation by Bernd Boettger attendees will have the opportunity to experience the SimZone, FM Global’s  12,000 sq. ft. hands-on learning facility where they can simulate a wide range of property hazards and scenarios. The SimZone is used to supplement other learning methods and is a great place to focus on skill and behavior change rather than pure knowledge transfer. Prepare to find yourself immersed in different areas of industrial buildings such as the boiler room, on the roof, in the electrical room or in a space where fire sprinklers are going off all around you - no worries you won’t get wet!

Bernd Boettger is the Chief Learning Specialist for Engineering at FM Global. Bernd is responsible for the technical accuarcy of learning content and he works on continously evolving training methods in order to create and maintain a true 21st century learning environment. Bernd joined FM Global in 1995 and held a number of positions in engineering and management before joining Enterprise Learning in 2010. Bernd holds an MSc in mechanical engineering from the University for Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany and a B.Eng. (hons) in engineering from the University of Portsmouth, UK.
