LEARNING MANAGEMENT SIG PRESENTS:

Beyond Basic Assessments

with Garima Gupta

November 13, 2026

2:30 to 3:30 PM

Virtual event - link in registration email

Assessments don't usually get the credit they deserve. Well-designed assessments tell us what learners actually learned, how well they learned it, where they struggled, and how we can improve our courses - and they give the organization real information, not just a completion number.

This session looks at the main types of assessment and what makes each one good, with the rationale and use case for each. We'll dig into practical strategies for making multiple-choice questions far better than they usually are, with real examples you can take back with you. Then we'll go past multiple choice altogether and look at valid, authentic assessment through scenarios, branching, case studies, and AI-powered roleplays.

In this session, attendees will learn:

  • Learn what makes an assessment valid, reliable, and feasible
  • Identify techniques for diagnostic, knowledge-check, and summative assessments
  • Explore strategies to strengthen multiple-choice questions
  • Discover practical alternatives to multiple choice
