ATD Greater Boston Presents:
Introduction to Design Thinking: a human centered approach to solving complex problems

Wednesday, January 13, 2021

Virtual event - link in registration email

6:30pm – 8:30pm

This Design Thinking session is a hands-on introduction to a human-centered approach to solving complex problems. Rather than asking “what can we do or make?” the starting point is asking “what do people need?” and follows a path of building and testing ideas in rapid iterative cycles to decrease risk and increase confidence along the way.

Design Thinking techniques, such as developing empathy with users and co-creation of solutions can be applied to a variety of real business needs, from internal change management to building strong relationships with clients.

Please see the illustration below for the kind of everyday craft materials we ask you to have at the ready for this session.

About the Speaker

Susan Shelkrot joined Forrester in 2018 to build a culture of innovation and growth. She had started out as graphic designer spanning science museums and elementary textbooks but grew frustrated by assignments that lacked access to decision-makers and end-users. The little voice saying "if I were in charge. . . " led her to business development for creative agencies. Building experience in advertising, landscape architecture and product design, Susan earned a reputation for framing business problems and structuring engagements to deliver work that mattered.

As Vice President of Business Development at Altitude, Susan led engagements of industrial and experience designers, systems engineers and ethnographers to identify and create disruptive innovations for giants like AB InBev and revolutionary healthcare start-ups you’ll know in five years. Acquired by Accenture in 2017, Susan refocused on designing and facilitating executive workshops to help companies learn and adopt innovative mindsets and practices essential to thriving amidst disruption.

Susan earned a BA from Yale University. Life has taught her a thing or two since then.
